Connecting
I read a story years ago about a Monk who sold his Ferrari. It was a story about a very successful attorney who was on a quest to becoming a better version of himself and in so doing he turned his back on all his worldly possessions and sought to align himself spiritually by becoming a monk.
Back then I thought the story to be very interesting and wondered how could anyone simply give it all away
Years later in the present I came across a true story of a young woman, a Nurse by profession who walked away from working in the Emergency room, and started her own business. She too walked away from it all including all she owned to move outside the US so she could be free from that which had her bound
In my mature state I now understand why she released what she owned to go inward and connect with self and God. Don’t get me wrong I don’t believe that in order to find God we have to give up all we own but I do believe that in order to truly connect with God we must go within ourselves and seek Him on a deep level in order to fully understand who we are and what He requires of us
Her move was drastic but this was her quest and she felt all the things possessed made it hard for her to connect and so she made a choice, then a decision, and then the move
How many of us could truly do that? How many of us could give up everything to get closer to God, especially these days where we feel possessions make us who we are. How easy would it be to release the possessions, the lifestyle, and that which is our identity to be free?
What God desires for us is for us to make the ultimate sacrifice and freely give ourselves to Him and that we would understand why the cost is not too much. God desires that we become selfless and submit to His relentless love and in our submission we will get to that place of understanding, experiencing ourselves and Him on the most purest of levels spiritually
Today as I sit here I have decided to go within to speak with God so He can continue to refine me and in so doing help me to get to that place in Him where I too will be free
Shalom
