Village
Growing up in Jamaica it literally took a village to raise children. Let me explain, if there was something I was doing that was less than modest and my neighbor saw me she or he would make sure to stop me in my tracks to correct me on every level and if that was not enough my parents would be certain to to hear about whatever it is that took place in the day.
Back then i didn’t understand the importance of being raised by a “village” and thought that my neighbors were just interruptions in my life but life and adulthood has taught me that it is very important have those in and around your circle who not only look out for you but also for the well being of your children as well.
I have no problem with those in my village teaching and guiding my children because in the end I certainly am not able to see everything and as such if they are able to help out in these areas then I am truly thankful.
There are those who have an issue with people trying to correct the mistakes of their children and my response to that is always, to each his own.
My home growing up was one that was opened to many who needed solace and safety and I saw where my parents loved any and everyone regardless of their place in life. They helped, they loved, they gave of themselves and in the end those lives were the better for it
Today I find that the heart in them transferred to me causing me to also be at a place where helping in a village setting has become more tantamount than living life just looking out for my own.
I believe in the village mentality, I believe that it works and I believe that the village which surrounds my children are a team made up of the best from the best
If you find yourself surrounded by a village today consider it all a blessing especially if through all seasons your village rides for you
Jah Bless
